Renewed Horizons
Renewed Horizons, our Adult Day Center, is a program specially designed for our
elderly friends, and located at our Lakeside Opportunities building on Lake Eliza in Valparaiso. This program helps individuals by providing individual attention, meals, transportation and social health and
recreational activities during the daytime hours.
Volunteer opportunities exist for anyone interested
in assisting with activities such as card games,
bingo, music, reading aloud to clients, etc. Monday
through Friday – anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Sewing
If you like to sew, we have several ongoing projects that you can help with on your own time, within your own home. Call Cathy Kuchenmeister for more details.
Pampering
Do you enjoy helping other people feel special? Then volunteer your time painting nails and styling hair on a monthly or weekly basis for our clients at our Lakeside Opportunities facility.
Day Programs
Our Day Habilitation and Daily Living Skills areas utilize volunteers with programs
that may include crafts, assistive exercise, music,
reading to clients, and assisting with specific curriculum-based
objectives.
OutSource Solutions provides volunteer opportunities from time to time with product packaging
and assembly projects.
With OE educational programs, volunteers can teach
self help skills, such as exercise and cooking.
They may also use personal talents to create new
instructional groups.
Organizational Advancement Department
Help spread the message about Opportunity Enterprises
by lending your skills in clerical and computer
operations, telephoning, and letter writing. Development
also allows volunteers to participate in fun and
rewarding fundraising activities and special events.
Community Living Program
Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. operates seven group
homes throughout Porter County. In addition, our
support professionals provide care and assistance
to consumers residing in 25 independent living
sites, as well as our Respite home in Jackson Township.
Volunteer opportunities
exist for individuals interested in establishing
friendships with our Community Living consumers.
They can participate in many activities, including
meal assistance, playing board and card games, attending
group and church outings, and assisting clients with
written correspondence to families and friends.
Evening and weekend
hours are most conducive to the Community Living
program.
Special Events
There are special
events that provide one-time commitments, as well as on-going, regularly scheduled commitments
for volunteers.
Our special events
are a lot of fun, a great way to help out and even
a time for friends to get together to help a great
cause.
Our largest one-day
event is our Pack-A-Thon. Held each September we
pull together 800+ volunteers to pack the 45,000
bags for The Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This
event is great for groups and individuals alike.
