If your loved one has Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS), you are eligible for Respite Care waiver dollars. Respite Care allows you the ability to schedule time away from your loved one. You can use this time to take care of your own needs, spend time with other family members or friends, go on vacation, or just find time to yourself. While you take time out for you, you become a better caregiver for your loved one with a disability.
Respite Care, from their perspective, is a lot like summer camp, spirit week, and personal attention all rolled into one. Every participant in Respite has a staff member for them. They get to choose exactly what they’d like to do whether fun or for learning. There are outings every day which allow them to enjoy time with their peers just like them.
